NIFGASHOT 20/21
In Fe(m)stival 2020-2021 we will expand and deepen the meeting between art and community. The festival will take place in two locations in Israel: the Kfar Shalem neighborhood in Tel Aviv and the Kelim Choreography Center in Bat Yam. We will see feminism in its broadest sense; an approach that embraces a multitude of voices regardless of gender, sexual preference, ethnicity and socio-economic background. All of the artistic processes and key events will be dedicated to the theme Circles of Belonging: Family Circles, Neighborhood Circles, Community Circles. During the Corona period and lockdown, we have experiencing a connection to our community more than ever, be it the community we are physically close to or those we are emotionally close to. With the perspective of circles of belonging, the Kfar Shalem Fe(m)stival will focus on belonging to a place and a neighborhood while the Kelim Fe(m)stival will focus on familial, intergenerational belonging.
As part of the Fe(m)stival project, creative processes will be under way throughout 2020 in the Kfar Shalem community leading up the key event of the Fe(m)stival, which will take place in Kfar Shalem, Tel Aviv and at the Kelim Choreography Center during Passover 2021.
The project includes three steps:
Long-term creative processes in the community
In-depth processes in which a leading artist in her field guides an artistic process in collaboration with a permanent group of participants from the Kfar Shalem neighborhood.
Over the course of many months, the following processes take place in the community:
In the field of dance, choreographer Anat Aadia led a group of girls studying dance in Neve Eliezer and Beit Barbour. Using improvisational tools, Anat guided the girls on how to create movement materials based on personal texts they wrote that touched on their memories of the Kfar Shalem neighborhood. Throughout the sessions, they created a unique piece, Site Specific, that will be performed in the public space as part of the festival. In this way, a feminist action is created in which the girls dance and perform in the neighborhood public space, in an action that seeks to take back ownership of the public space where girls’ presence is often excluded and their bodies are objectified.
Multidisciplinary artist Anat Dreamer is leading a SPOKEN WORD writing workshop in collaboration with senior women from the neighborhood. Anat writes: "We would like to find and pour each woman's unique voice into a form that allows us to shine." The meetings created a safe space for the women to express themselves and make their voices heard, to connect with each woman's inner strength through artistic practice in a way that resonates with the many areas of their lives and gives them a sense of meaning, belonging and joy. At the end of the process, the women will perform a live spoken word performance in which they will perform with the texts they wrote. In addition to the live performance, an exhibition will be held in collaboration with the Kibbutzim Seminar College, in which students from the seminar's art department created works of art inspired by the women and the texts they wrote.
The products of the artistic processes in the community and the exhibition will be presented as part of the 'Meetings in Kfar Shalem Festival' 2021.
These processes are intended to deepen the network of connections between the residents and themselves, thus strengthening their connection to the neighborhood and the community, allowing them to express themselves and their personal voice through artistic practice, to be personally and in-depthly exposed to contemporary female artists in the field of art, and to flood content about their experiences as girls/women within the community and geographical context in which they live.

In January 2021, a call went out for choreographers, residents of Tel Aviv, for an artist residency program and participation in the Meet in Kfar Shalem Festival. The four choreographers accepted into the program received: studios to work in the Kfar Shalem neighborhood; artistic and production support and a grant to develop an original work. In return, the artists will conduct an open workshop for the audience for residents of the neighborhood during the festival. In addition, the works will premiere as part of the 'Meet in Kfar Shalem Festival' and will be adapted to the public space in which they will appear. The choreographers selected to participate in the program: Rachel Erdos, Ella Greenbaum, Augustine Ensemble and Anat Oz.
The program is designed to promote female artists who are residents of Tel Aviv, as well as invite them to act, influence, receive inspiration and create within the Kfar Shalem neighborhood.
