2024 NIFGASHOT
This is the fourth year that the Tel Aviv–Yafo Municipality is holding the dance event “NIFGASHOT in Kfar Shalem” in the south-eastern part of the city. This year, taking place during a time of war, we place an emphasis on inviting the audience to take an active and participatory role in the performances and events—to experience, as a community, the power of gathering around art as a source of hope; to take part in workshops accompanying the performances in order to experience through the body the healing and revitalizing power of movement; to enjoy a movement-therapy space; and to encounter a multi-sensory and interdisciplinary experience within a single environment.
The dance and art events will take place at the Barbur Country Club complex and will offer a multi-generational and multicultural experience spread across the entire venue: dance performances for children and adults on the outdoor deck plaza; a dance-prayer performance inside the empty swimming pool; a creative workshop area for children; a movement-therapy space on the grass; a hosting living room—an intimate performance setting for audiences led by local women from the neighborhood; and more. This year, the event will also include the swimming pool area, where a site-specific light installation by artist Yosef Mashiach—“Hitgalgelut (Rolling): A Choreography of Waves of Light”—will be presented.
“NIFGASHOT in Kfar Shalem” brings dance out of theatres into public space in order to connect it with new audiences. The NIFGASHOT program is about creating connections between diverse communities and perspectives—between the local neighborhood community and audiences of art and dance, and between community-based projects and professional works by leading women artists. NIFGASHOT places an emphasis on women artists and promotes feminist issues on stage through a multiplicity of styles, cultures, and female representations within multidisciplinary art.
